Invitation to the laying of the foundation stone of Dortmund's Christmas City 2024

Another year has passed in which few people have found peace and quiet. Advent is traditionally a time of reflection; people retreat to warm surroundings and reflect on the year. But at the same time, outside, the lights are switched on, the Christmas lights are installed, and the mood shifts to excitement and anticipation for Christmas and the New Year.

Creating this anticipation is our motivation every year when we begin planning for Dortmund as a Christmas city. And the closer the date approaches, the greater our anticipation grows.

The first major milestone is now approaching: the laying of the foundation stone for the world's largest Christmas tree on Hansaplatz in Dortmund. And this year we're celebrating twice as much, because it's the 125th Christmas market, making it a special celebration and a special tree.

Traditionally, there will be mulled wine and bratwurst. This year, we will donate the proceeds to the
Gast-Haus eV, the ecumenical homeless initiative in the Union Quarter.

To provide quick and practical assistance, we set up baskets on site and ask for donations of hygiene items and packaged food for breakfast distribution (e.g. coffee, tea, sugar, jam or Nutella).

Joy can have so many faces, and often it is the little things that bring a smile to other people's faces.
